In a delightful surprise for fans, the beloved sci-fi film Koi…Mil Gaya is returning to theaters on August 4 to commemorate its 20th anniversary. Directed by Rakesh Roshan, the movie starred Hrithik Roshan, Rekha, and Preity Zinta and introduced audiences to the lovable alien character Jaadoo. The film will be re-released in 30 cities, including Delhi and Mumbai
Rakesh Roshan, the mastermind behind the film, shared his excitement about the re-release and reminisced about the emotional depth of the story. “At the heart of our film, it was a deeply emotional story of a mentally challenged boy, his journey, his relationship with his mother, friends, and Nisha – the only adult girl who would understand and accept him for who he was,” he said. Roshan also highlighted the minimal use of visual effects in the film, with the exception of the spaceship, as most of the magic was accomplished through creative groundwork. Additionally, there was no Digital Intermediate (DI) done for the film.
The impact of Koi…Mil Gaya has endured over the years, with memes and references still being made to it today. Roshan acknowledged this phenomenon, stating, “For any film to pass the test of time, it needs to have a strong emotional bond with its audience. I think ‘Koi… Mil Gaya connected with the kids, who have now grown up, some having children of their own today. Emotions conveyed through memorable dialogues like ‘Mere papa se seekh kar aaya hoon’, ‘Mujhe kuch dikhai nahi de raha hai maa’, ‘Haila Jaadoo’ etc. are etched in the memory and I see them being used in situations even today, especially in memes.
