How much does a collector get salary
- Currently, employees under the Government of India are entitled to the pay structure as per the 7th Pay Commission, which includes Collectors and IAS officers.
- The salary of all IAS officer ranges from Rs 56,100 to Rs 2,25,000 per month. As per the 7th Pay Commission norms, initially a District Collector gets a salary of Rs 56,100 per month and with experience it can go up to Rs 2,50,000 per month.
- Apart from this, the collector also gets the benefit of many allowances like Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, Traveling Allowance, Medical Allowance.
- Including all allowances, an IAS officer earns more than Rs 1 lakh per month in the initial days.
- A District Collector enjoys the same powers and position as a District Magistrate and hence the pay scale of a District Collector is the same as that of a District Magistrate.

What are the functions of the Collector
- The Collector or District Collector is in charge of the land revenue system and the administration of all types of government taxes in the district in which he is posted.
- The District Collectors is responsible for the collection of taxes, he has to look into tax disputes, and hold appropriate court sessions to settle them fairly.
- The District Collector has to look after all matters relating to land, mediating the acquisition of land, its assessment and collection of land revenue. Income tax dues, excise duty, irrigation dues and recovery of dues thereof.
- The Collector holds the highest revenue management post in the district, his job is to manage the district well. A collector is assigned the responsibility of one district of the state.
