Israel Keeps Evacuation Routes Open Amid Rising Tensions

Israel said that it will keep two highways open to allow civilians to flee until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday as hundreds of Palestinians evacuated the northern Gaza Strip to avoid the expected Israeli ground attack. The entire population of the northern side of the Gaza Strip had given till Saturday AM to leave the area. IDF spokesman Avichay Adraee tweeted, “For your safety, take advantage of the brief time to move south – from Beit Hanoun to Khan Yunis.” A plan of the two routes, one of which ran along the coast and the other across the middle of the Gaza Strip, was also provided by him.

According to a study released on Saturday by the Palestinian health ministry, Israeli strikes in the West Bank and Gaza Strip have resulted in at least 2,269 Palestinian deaths and 9,814 more injuries. According to Reuters, the Israeli military said that a drone killed militants who were purportedly trying to enter from Lebanon. The commander of the Hamas Aerial System in Gaza, Merad Abu Merad, has also allegedly killed by the Israeli Air Force.

The Health Ministry said that over 6,000 people had injured and 1,799 people had died as a result of Israeli attacks across Gaza, although the Israeli military claimed that it had conducted “localized raids” inside the Gaza Strip. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has urged by the Palestinian representative to the UN, Riyad Mansour, to take more action to halt a “crime against humanity”.

At Sinai’s Al Arish airport, two further relief aircraft arrive.

An official from the Red Crescent and an aid volunteer reported that new assistance aircraft landed on Saturday in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula, where supplies stored until safe entry into the adjoining Gaza Strip can ensured.

At least two more aircraft delivering humanitarian goods for Gaza have landed this week, according to the Red Cross official and the aid volunteer, including one from Turkey, at Sinai’s Al Arish airport, which is roughly 45 kilometers (28 miles) from the Gaza border.

The World Health Organization said that a plane bringing medical supplies and medications for trauma patients had also landed. In a statement, WHO director Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated that “more girls and boys, women and men, especially those vulnerable or disabled, will die every hour these supplies remain on the Egyptian side of the border.” (Reuters)
