On Thursday, Chinese President Xi Jinping asserted that his nation had “not provoked a conflict or war, or occupied a single inch of foreign land”.
Speaking at a luncheon on the fringes of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) conference, Xi made his statements only hours after his much-awaited meeting with US President Joe Biden, during which the two leaders agreed to ease tensions since they had not spoken in a year.

With concerns about China’s stricter business regulations and bilateral tensions, attention keenly focused on Xi’s remarks at the event hosted by the US-China Business Council and National Committee on US-China Relations. Xi said, “Throughout the 70 years and more since the founding of the People’s Republic, China has not provoked a conflict or war, or occupied a single inch of foreign land.” Biden voiced concerns about China’s violations of human rights, particularly in Xinjiang, Tibet, and Hong Kong, during the discussion.
“President Biden emphasized that all countries have a need to uphold their international human rights obligations and that human rights are a global concept. He expressed concerns about violations of human rights in the People’s Republic of China, including in Tibet, Xinjiang, and Hong Kong “the White House readout said. Notably, the epidemic began the same year when Indian and Chinese forces engaged in combat at Galwan in 2020. Both sides have stationed in forward positions close to Patrolling focus 15, which became a focus of contention following the Galwan battle, since May 2020, when the Chinese soldiers attempted to forcefully alter the status quo on LAC in eastern Ladakh.
