Professor Arnold Dix, a worldwide authority in tunneling, asked to assist with the rescue effort on Saturday as the effort to free the 41 men stranded in an unfinished tunnel in Uttarkashi approached its seventh day.

- On Saturday morning, efforts to free the forty-one laborers who stranded in an Uttarkashi tunnel under construction began again. According to officials, the drilling has stopped for the time being.
A loud cracking sound detected in the tunnel around 2:45 p.m. on Friday, during the placement of the fifth pipe.
