Pakistan wants to involve Russia and China in the investigation of the Pahalgam terror attack. It is worth mentioning here that ‘The Resistance Front’ (TRF), a proxy of Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba, has claimed responsibility for the Pahalgam attack. “I think Russia or China or even Western countries can play a very positive role in this crisis and they can even set up an investigation team,” Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said in a recent interview with the Russian state-run RIA Novosti news agency.
He said, “This task should be assigned to find out whether India or Modi is lying or telling the truth. An international team should be allowed to find out.” He said that Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has also proposed an international investigation. “Let us find out who is the culprit and the perpetrator of this incident in India, in Kashmir. Words or empty statements have no effect. There must be some proof that Pakistan is involved in this or these people had Pakistan’s support. These are just statements, empty statements, and nothing else,” the news agency quoted Khawaja Asif as saying.
Finally, he emphasized how an India-Pakistan conflict is not the goodwill of regional peace and stability, and that it will not serve the fundamental interests of the two countries. Yi hoped that both sides would “exercise restraint, move toward each other, and work to de-escalate tensions”, as reported by the Global Times.
