Israel-Gaza war: Israeli air strikes continued to bombard Gaza on Monday and its aircraft struck southern Lebanon overnight. Meanwhile, six countries comprising the US, UK, Canada, France, Italy, and Germany issued a joint statement calling on Israel to adhere to international humanitarian law while showing their support for its “right to defend itself against terrorism”. This came as health authorities said the death toll in Gaza climbed to 4,600 in retaliatory strikes by Israel for the Hamas surprise attack on October 7 which killed 1,400 people.
The Israel-Gaza war, now in its 16th day, is the deadliest of five Gaza wars for both sides. The Palestinian Health Ministry said on Sunday that the death toll in Gaza had reached at least 4,651 people, with another 14,254 people wounded in the besieged territory.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he has discussed with Israeli President Isaac Herzog the captives taken by Hamas while raising concerns over the deteriorating conditions in Gaza
“We spoke about the hostages held by Hamas, and the need for their immediate release,” Trudeau said in a post on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter
“I also expressed my concern for the humanitarian situation in Gaza, and my support for the right of both Israelis and Palestinians to live in peace and security,” he added.
Gaza’s civil defense says 30 bodies recovered from under rubble in Jabalia
At least 30 bodies, most of them belonging to women and children, have been recovered from under bombed-out buildings, following the latest Israeli strike in northern Gaza.
The Palestinian civil defense in the city of Jabalia said that Israeli forces hit two buildings in one of the refugee camps in the area.
