Sunny Deol ‘compromised’ on his fees for ‘Gadar 2’: Director Anil Sharma

Filmmaker Anil Sharma has denied reports that the upcoming film Gadar 2 had a budget of anywhere between Rs 75 crore and Rs 100 crore. Sharma cleared the air, stating that the actual figure is much lower than what has been speculated. He credited the Indian Army and the Uttar Pradesh government for their support in keeping the film’s costs in check.

During an interview with Lehren Retro, Anil Sharma also commented on the fees charged by star Sunny Deol. In a remark about the inflated budgets of recent tentpole projects, Sharma mentioned that lead actors are now being paid as high as Rs 150 crore, adding, “It was a reasonable budget…We really made an effort to control everybody’s fees. Sunny’s fees are what it is, it’s okay, it’s just one person, but even he compromised quite a bit. These days.

Sharma expressed immense gratitude towards the Indian Army for their support during the film’s production. He mentioned how they provided tanks, shooting locations, and soldiers, contributing significantly to the film. Additionally, the filmmaker expressed his appreciation for the assistance received from the Uttar Pradesh ministry. Sharma shared examples of how they blocked main roads and even blew up real bridges during the shooting.

The film is the highly anticipated sequel to the 2001 blockbuster Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. Notably, the original film surpassed the Oscar-nominated Lagaan at the box office. Gadar 2 is set to clash with Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2.
