Huma Qureshi recently opened up about being subjected to body shaming before she started talking about body positivity on magazine covers. Sometimes she feels like pulling out all the old articles and turning the lens towards the people writing it saying, ‘This is what you do to a young person who is trying to make it in her 20s. The actress mentioned the kind of things written about her which were something like ‘What is she wearing’, ‘Look at her knees and her calves’, and ‘Zooming on certain body parts and circling them.
She told Barkha Dutt for Mojo Story that maybe a lot of kids who grow up in Mumbai must be used to hearing that from their parents or friends but it was difficult for her to understand how to deal with such situations on an everyday basis since she had not faced it earlier. When Huma Qureshi used to read such stuff written about her after becoming an actor, she used to question herself whether she is not looking good enough and maybe she needs to change herself. She confessed that she was trying to change but it was not coming from a good place.
She added that in her personal life, she never had an issue with how she looked. But when she became an actress, people told her to lose weight or get liposuction surgery. She also recalled a journalist telling her that she needs to look a certain way because they have to be in front of the camera. On being asked about cosmetic surgery, Huma said that it’s a personal choice and that tomorrow if she decides to shave her eyebrows.
