Jaya Bachchan debut film Guddi had her playing a teenager who is a big fan of the film star Dharmendra and the Hrishikesh Mukherjee film had Dharmendra playing himself. Jaya has previously spoken about her huge crush on Dharmendra during those years and how she was completely in awe of the actor. When Karan Johar asked Dharmendra about their association from Jaya Bachchan Guddi days, the veteran actor said, “I still call her Guddi.” He then recalled how her photo session, presumably the first one, was done at his house and remembered how she would often say that she was his big fan. “Her photo session was at my house only. She used to be my fan, she used to tell me all the dialogues,” he said.
Then, complimenting Jaya’s acting prowess, Dharmendra said, “Guddi is a fine actress.” He further shared, “We still visit each other. Whenever we meet, it feels great. Voh Guddi hi hai meri. (For me, she will always be Guddi).
Dharmendra plays Kanwal in the Karan Johar film who is struggling with his memory in his old age but his problems are temporarily subsided after he meets his lost lover Jamini, played by Shabana Azmi. Much like the actor’s real-life persona, his character is shown to be a poet. The film’s central focus in the first half is the love story between Kanwal and Jamini who gave up on each other during their younger days because they were both married.
