Russian aircraft authorities have rejected to perform an urgent inquiry into the catastrophic crash of a Brazilian-made Embraer plane that killed mercenary figure Yevgeny Prigozhin. Russia transmitted this decision to Brazil’s aviation investigation authority. Advising them that the crash would not be investigated under international norms at this time.
Who exactly is Yevgeny Prigozhin?
Yevgeny Prigozhin, along with high-ranking associates from his Wagner Group and personal security guards. He were killed in a recent Embraer Legacy 600 crash in the northern outskirts of Moscow.
Was Prigozhin murdered?
The disaster, which occurred exactly two months after Prigozhin launched a brief insurgency against Russia’s defense establishment. He was considered as a huge threat to President Vladimir Putin’s term, maybe the most significant since his ascension to office in 1999.
In reaction to this development, Brazil’s Center for Research and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents (CENIPA) volunteered to participate in a collaborative investigation headed by Russia. If invited and if the probe followed globally accepted norms. Although not obligated to accept the invitation, Russia’s aviation authority has opted not to pursue such a coordinated inquiry.
This action has caused several former investigators to argue that Russia should have contemplated cooperating. Especially given the suspicions of certain Western nations, notably the United States, that the disaster was staged by the Kremlin. The Kremlin, on the other hand, has emphatically denied any participation in the event, according to Reuters.
The Russian judgment is significant because the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) emphasizes that the flight was domestic. Which means it is exempt from the standards outlined in “Annex 13,” the legislative framework regulating international aviation disaster investigations.
Brazilian officials have shown their willingness to join in the probe from afar if Russia decides to initiate an investigation and offer an invitation.
