In the final match of the Asian Champions Trophy being played in Chennai, India has won the trophy for the fourth time after defeating Malaysia.

The Indian hockey team has once again done wonders and won the Asian Champions Trophy tournament being played in Chennai. India was behind earlier in this thrilling match against Malaysia. But the team made a huge comeback in the third quarter and scored in the fourth quarter to win.

India won this match against Malaysia 4-3. This is the fourth time that India has lifted the trophy of this championship. With this win, India became the first country to win the trophy most times.

Prior to this fourth victory in 2023, India had previously won the championship trophy in 2018, 2016, and 2011. India and Pakistan were joint winners in 2018 as the final match was called off due to heavy rain.

India played effectively in the opening minutes of the game, and Jugraj Singh scored. Malaysia continued to counter-attack after this and India trailed 3-1 at half-time. The Malaysian team continued to lead but the passion of the Indian players was seen in the third and fourth quarters. In the third quarter, India equalized with Malaysia by scoring two goals in one minute. The Indian team won this event thanks to a fourth-quarter counterattack by Akashdeep Singh.

PM congratulated

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated Indian girls for this grand victory. Congratulating the Indian men’s hockey team, he said all the best to all the players for making India proud in the Asian Championship. He also expressed his happiness after becoming India’s winner in this tournament for the fourth time and the most time.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, Sardar Singh, Rani Rampal, Vishwanath Anand, Savita Punia and women’s hockey team along with Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur attended the match to encourage the Indian players in the tournament.
