On August 27, India imposed new controls on rice exports in order to prevent the export of white rice. Which is currently illegal.

“It has been reported that non-basmati white rice is exported. Under the HS codes of parboiled rice and basmati rice,” claimed the ministry in a statement.

On July 20, the central government modified the rice export regulations, placing white rice in the “prohibited” category.
