If he wins the 2024 presidential election. He would call the H-1B visa program “indentured servitude” and “gut,” Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy. An Indian-American, made yet another noteworthy assertion. He further said that merit-based admittance will take the place of the lottery-based approach, which would be more efficient.

Ramaswamy on H-1B visa

The statement made at a time when millions of Indians are having difficulty getting work visas for the US because of the lengthy wait times.

The H-1B system “bad for everyone involved,” according to Ramaswamy, who quoted by Politico.

“A real meritocratic admission process needs to take the place of the lottery method. It amounts to an indentured servitude that exclusively benefits the employer who sponsored the H-1B foreigner. In a statement, he added, “I’ll gut it. The US has to stop chain-based migration.

“The immigrants who come as family members are not the meritocratic immigrants. Who contribute to this country through their skill-based labor.”

Ramaswamy has utilized the visa program 29 times personally. Roivant Sciences, Ramaswamy’s previous employer, received 29 approvals from US Citizenship and Immigration Services between 2018 and 2023 for the hiring of personnel on H-1B visas.
