Israel-Palestine War Live Updates: Israel’s military on Friday called for all civilians of Gaza City, more than 1 million people, to relocate south within 24 hours, as it amassed tanks near the Gaza Strip ahead of an expected ground invasion.
The Israel-Palestine War military said it would operate “significantly” in Gaza City in the coming days and civilians would only be able to return when another announcement was made.
An IDF spokesperson said “The aim is to minimize the damage to civilians” as “there are significant combat operations ongoing, and we are preparing for the future and the continuance of our combat operations”.
Meanwhile, the United Nations urged Israel to rescind the call and warned that it could have ‘devastating humanitarian consequences’. “The United Nations considers it impossible for such a movement to take place without devastating humanitarian consequences,” Stephane Dujarric, spokesperson for the UN secretary-general, said on Thursday.
According to the Israel-Palestine War Ministry of Health, the ongoing Israeli airstrikes in Gaza have resulted in the deaths of at least 1,537 individuals, including 500 children and 267 women, since their commencement following a deadly Hamas attack last Saturday.
An additional 6,612 people have sustained injuries. Israel has been reeling since an October 7 attack, when Hamas gunmen swept into small towns, kibbutzim, and a music festival, killing more than 1,200 people and taking about 150 hostages.

Israel has called for the evacuation of 1.1 million residents in north Gaza to move south in the next 24 hours, Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for the UN secretary-general.
