ISRO’s Gaganyaan Mission Hits Major Milestone with TV-D1 Test Flight

The Flight Test Vehicle Abort Mission-1 (TV-D1) for the Gaganyaan mission will launch on October 21 between 7 and 9 a.m. from Sriharikota’s Satish Dhawan Space Center. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) announced on X (previously Twitter) that the TV-D1 test flight set for October 21, 2023 between 7 am and 9 am from SDSC-SHAR, Sriharikota.

The effectiveness of the Crew Escape System will displayed on TV-D1. The Crew Module (CM), according to ISRO, where the astronauts housed during the Gaganyaan expedition in a pressurized atmosphere similar to that of Earth.

“The CM for the Gaganyaan mission is in development at various phases. The CM for the TV-D1 finished integration and testing and prepared to sent to the launch facility. It is an unpressurized variant. This unpressurized CM variant must have the same mass and size as a genuine Gaganyaan CM. All of the mechanisms for acceleration and recovery housed there. With its full complement of pyrotechnics, actuation systems, recovery aids, and parachutes. For navigation, sequencing, telemetry, instrumentation, and power, the avionics systems in CM set up in a dual redundant mode. In this mission, the CM heavily instrumented to record flight data for assessing the effectiveness of several technologies. After the CM lands in the Bay of Bengal, it will collected with the help of a special vessel and a diving crew from the Indian Navy, according to ISRO.

The TV-D1 is currently in its last phases of preparation, it was added. A single-stage liquid rocket called the Test Vehicle was created for this abort mission.
